What fixed it for me was the removal of everything "bluez" related (and all dependencies) from Synaptic Package Manager. Btw: I also had this problem in kubuntu 8.04 (and maybe earlier too). However after I rebooted, and I try to use the keyboard again at gdm it again has the time-out which brakes bluetooth after the first key-press.
